It often happens that the tattoo you once longed for may become disturbing or the actual pattern or text becomes out of date. It is possible that the cosmetic tattoos on lips, eyelids or brows are no longer desired. In these cases it is necessary to seek professional help to remove tattoos safely. Removing tattoos is not a simple task. In each case it requires laser technique and an experienced professional.
Only laser beams can “explode” the ink particles that were injected in the deeper layers of the skin by tattooing. This is a prerequisite to allow for the phagocytes that protect the body to remove the ink particles and so, they can pass from the body.
We use Q-Switched Ruby Laser to remove tattoos. The equipment produces very short light pulses, the energy of which heats up the ink particles at such a speed that they break up without causing harm to the surrounding skin structures. In this way scarring can be avoided.

How many treatments are necessary for full tattoo removal?
This is highly dependent on the size of the area to be treated and the colour and type of the ink applied. Most tattoos require multiple treatment, at multiple intervals. The laser light affects the ink on the surface layer of the skin first and, in about three weeks, it disappears. The next treatment can follow after this. This time the laser will affect the deeper layers, and the amount of ink broken up will absorb again in a couple of weeks. The treatments shall be repeated until the remaining ink has disappeared from the skin. Over a series of treatments, the tattoo will become lighter and will gradually fade away. For full tattoo removal, usually 4–8 treatments are required.
How long will a removal session take?
Tattoo removal takes between 10 and 30 minutes per session.
Does tattoo removal hurt as much as tattooing itself?
No, tattoo removal is practically painless.
Does the treatment have any side effects?
As a side effect, rarely, white or brown patches or a small flat scar may form. To prevent this, sun protection is essential. The patient should apply sunscreen with a high sun protection factor on the area treated.
